For any wrestler around the world, there must be no better feeling than having a gold title belt with WWE’s logo around their waist. To make this dream come to reality, Superstars work through pain and injuries in order to prove that they are the best and deserve to be where they are now.
Currently, WWE has six top singles championships on the main roster, along with three tag team championships, and one floating 24/7 Championship.
With so much gold on offer, fans are always hoping and waiting to see their favorite Superstars become champions.
In this article, we will look at six deserving candidates to become the next champions for the company and wear their various championship belts. While a few have already won championships in the past and had good reigns, others have struggled to win a title or have a respectable reign till now.
#6 United States Championship - Rusev
Current Champion: AJ Styles
After becoming a record-setting WWE Champion, AJ Styles is back to holding the mid-card title with The O.C. by his side.
As a heel, Styles has managed to already overcome a couple of men who have come after his title. This has allowed him time to hold and elevate the value of the title while further building the strength and threat of The O.C.
Rusev has been missing from the scene for a long time, and now needs to return with a target in mind. Rusev fared very well as a babyface with the WWE Universe, and his Rusev Day gimmick was a hit.
WWE could have the Superstar return with the same gimmick and have him go after the United States Championship once again as the Bulgarian Brute deserves to have a good and long mid-card title reign at this point in his career.
Styles has also given boosts to budding Superstars, and Rusev is one man who can benefit from this, as a feud with one of WWE’s biggest Superstars and baddest factions could catapult him back onto the scene in grand fashion.
#5 Intercontinental Championship - Ali
Current Champion: Shinsuke Nakamura
Shinsuke Nakamura returned to action about a month ago and defeated Finn Balor at Extreme Rules to take home his second main roster championship.
While his initial run with the United States Championship was not too impressive, fans are hoping that he will defend the title more and make its value increase by being a good champion.
Not only is Ali a great performer, but he deserves to have gold around his waist for the services he has done to the company on the main roster. Ali seems to be a great option to be crowned the next Intercontinental Champion.
#4 SmackDown Women’s Championship - Charlotte Flair
Current Champion: Bayley
Bayley surprised everyone at Money in the Bank by climbing the ladder and taking home the Money in the Bank contract. While most would have expected her night to end right there, she surprised even more fans by returning later in the night and pinning Charlotte for the SmackDown Women’s Championship only minutes after she won the same title from Becky Lynch.
Now that Charlotte is back in action and rolling over opponents, we can expect her to rise to the championship picture once again. She defeated Trish Stratus at SummerSlam followed by Bayley’s SummerSlam opponent Ember Moon a couple of nights later.
With SmackDown moving to Fox soon, WWE will want its top stars to hold the titles to give Fox and added benefit and advantage in marketing the product. Handing the championship to Charlotte would prove to be the right move for the company.
Not only is Charlotte one of the most gifted and talented performers in the women’s roster, but she also has the fame and star power to fill more seats in the arena.
#3 Raw Women’s Championship - Sasha Banks
Current Champion: Becky Lynch
Talk about returning with a bang! Sasha Banks returned to the ring last week on Raw and took out Becky Lynch’s SummerSlam opponent Natalya before taking out The Man herself.
Banks made her intentions crystal clear with her move, and now she will be in contention for the top title rather sooner than later.
No matter how well Lynch has carried the title and the women’s division, fans will need some change soon in order to keep the product fresh and the competition more realistic.
In that case, Banks seems to be a great option to become the next Raw Women’s Champion as her return has already turned heads and sent a wave across the WWE Universe. Banks has never had a chance to get a long title reign on the main roster, and she has the talent and charisma to pull one off really well with her new character.
#2 Universal Championship - Braun Strowman
Current Champion: Seth Rollins
Since WrestleMania 35, Rollins has won the red belt, lost it, and then won it again. All three changes took place with Brock Lesnar involved, and we can now expect Lesnar to be kept away from the top title for some time.
In that case, there is another monster waiting to get his hands on a championship belt, and he deserves a big title rather than a regular one.
Braun Strowman has been rolling over opponents since the past couple of years, but has never gotten a real chance at the championships because of his own antics backstage.
Now that Strowman seems to be developing better, and on the back of a huge win over Bobby Lashley, we can expect Strowman to get that final push to the top title.
Strowman seems to be a good challenger for Rollins’ title and can win it convincingly from the Beastslayer without making him look weak. This would give Rollins a future chance to regain the title.
#1 WWE Championship - Xavier Woods
Current Champion: Kofi Kingston
Well, this might sound crazy but hear me out first. Xavier Woods is a world class performer who is not given due respect for his work and services to the company, just like Dolph Ziggler and Christian.
As the founder of the New Day, Woods has been instrumental in giving the company one of its best factions and cash cows, which the company seems to have no desire of breaking yet.
On the other hand, Woods is also extremely good in the ring and gives his opponents a great match each and every time which makes one wonder why he hasn’t won more singles titles till now.
WWE could book a huge WrestleMania 36 match where all three members go against each other for the championship in a triple threat match. It could be the brainchild of Vince McMahon or Shane McMahon instead of breaking up the trio, which would allow all three men to compete as faces.
This would be a fitting way to have Kofi part with the championship while passing the torch onto a newer competitor. It would also allow the championship to travel out of the New Day a few months later without making Kofi look weak.
