Top superstars including Cedric Alexander, R-Truth, the Miz, Jey Uso, Jordan Devlin, Travis Bank, Ligero, Joseph Conners, Humberto Carillo, Oney Lorcan, and Akira Tozawa are all confirmed to be in action next week on WWE television. Two matches have been confirmed for NXT UK while two more have been announced for 205 Live and SmackDown Live respectively. The most important of them all include a falls count anywhere match, a United States Championship match and two first-round matches of the number one contender’s Cruiserweight Championship tournament.
These are going to be the last few WWE television shows before Fastlane and as a result of that, they will be immensely important. All of these matches have the potential to steal the show and will likely be great contests.
#6. Ligero vs Joseph Connors (NXT UK)
Ligero and Joseph Connors have been involved in a feud for the last few months. Connors has claimed that he was neglected by WWE after the first ever NXT UK Championship tournament. He then claimed that WWE has instead put the focus on “shiny new toys” like Ligero while reminiscing the time he was once one of those “shiny new toys”.
The two superstars would then have a match on the January 9, 2019 edition of NXT UK earlier in the year. Ligero would go on to defeat Connors via pinfall with a springboard tornado DDT. This increased Joseph’s frustration and he has been looking for a chance to redeem himself ever since.
He will have his chance next week on NXT UK when the two face off in what will likely be the opening matchup of NXT UK’s episode.
#5. Falls Count Anywhere Match: Jordan Devlin vs Travis Banks (NXT UK)
Jordan Devlin and Travis Banks have been involved in a rivalry with each other for many months now. They were supposed to face off against each other at NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool but Devlin attacked Banks before the match could start. The next match that the two superstars would have on an episode of NXT UK ended in a no contest after neither superstar could get back in the ring at the count of ten.
The two would continue their rivalry with each other during the Worlds Collide tournament. After Devlin eliminated Banks from the 15-Man battle royal, Devlin would attack Banks that led to his elimination from the first round by Keith Lee. Their rivalry will finally end when they face off in a Falls Count Anywhere match this coming week, which will likely be the main event of the show.
#4. Humberto Carillo vs Oney Lorcan (205 Live)
Humberto Carillo has gained a lot of momentum since joining 205 Live. He has already taken Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy to the limit and has defeated the likes of Gran Metalik, TJP, and Zack Gibson.
He will look to clear his path to WrestleMania 35 when he faces off with Oney Lorcan from NXT in a first-round matchup of the Cruiserweight Championship number one contender’s tournament where the winner will face Buddy Murphy for the Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania 35.
#3. Akira Tozawa vs Cedric Alexander (205 Live)
Two former Cruiserweight Champions in Cedric Alexander and Akira Tozawa will face off in the final first round match of the Cruiserweight Championship number one contender’s tournament. Tozawa has had a lot of momentum and pushed Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy to his best at Elimination Chamber. He will look to continue that momentum by moving on in the tournament and facing the winner of the Humberto Carillo vs Oney Lorcan match in the semifinals.
#2. The Miz vs Jey Uso (SmackDown Live)
The Usos will defend the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The Miz and Shane McMahon at Fastlane. Before Fastlane though, The A-Lister will look to prove himself to his tag team partner once again when he faces off against Jey Uso in a singles match.
McMahon will be at ringside to support Miz while Jimmy Uso will be in Jey’s corner. There will almost certainly be fireworks in this match as singles matches involving tag teams never end in a clean fashion. The Miz will look to shut the Usos up who have ridiculed the former WWE Champion in recent weeks.
The Awesome One will be eager to prove to McMahon that he is worthy of being a partner while also hoping to gain some momentum heading into Fastlane and WrestleMania. Jey Uso, on the other hand, will hope to prove why he and Jimmy Uso are the SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
#1: R-Truth’s United States Championship Open Challenge (SmackDown Live)
The United States Champion R-Truth made his return to SmackDown Live last week and hosted a United States Championship Open Challenge in honor of his hero John Cena. Both
Andrade and Rey Mysterio accepted this challenge and as a result, R-Truth defended the United States Championship in a triple threat match against both superstars. Despite a solid effort from both challengers, Truth was able to get the victory by rolling up Mysterio and allowing him to successfully defend the United States Championship. He surely did his hero John Cena proud.
Truth will look to have the same level of success that he had on the last episode of SmackDown Live against a mystery opponent. Potential challengers include Andrade, Samoa Joe, Randy Orton, and even one of the NXT call ups.
