But for superstars on the main roster, their life mostly belongs on the road. Thousands of miles each week and live events make it a difficult life, but they always find a place to train and get their workouts on.
For these few WWE superstars, physical transformation was their top priority and they stopped at nothing to make sure that they got in the best physical shape possible. It’s commendable that they managed to do this and it requires a whole lot of dedication, but it was done. We look at six superstars who underwent major physical transformations.
#6 Dean Ambrose
Dean Ambrose is an absolute workhorse and many people don’t realize why he was called the Iron Man of WWE. He went years in the company without any days off and without really falling ill.
At one point of time when he was WWE Champion (and Roman Reigns was suspended), Ambrose literally worked two live events in one day. His dedication and workhorse mentality, unfortunately, resulted in some wear and tear and by the end of 2017, he had sustained an elbow injury, requiring surgery.
It was his first hiatus in WWE and not much was known about his time off since his presence on social media is nonexistent. Seth Rollins only mentioned in passing that Ambrose was training hard to return, but that was it.
He made his much-anticipated return on the RAW before SummerSlam, debuting a new look and being visibly shredded. Ambrose used his time off to get into incredible physical condition.
#5 Mike Kanellis
Mike Kanellis may not be featured regularly on WWE television, but in the course of the past year from his debut, he’s been through a lot. After debuting, he was around for a bit before his wife Maria got pregnant.
During the time, WWE also gave Mike Kanellis time off to deal with his personal addiction to pills. To their credit, Mike and Maria were very vocal about his struggles and Mike dealt with it successfully. He would then go on to get shredded as he seemed more motivated than ever.
With a family to feed, Kanellis knew it was time to make a change.
#4 Akira Tozawa
Akira Tozawa made a name for himself in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic and even made a splash on the main roster, becoming Cruiserweight Champion at one point. Years before, however, in Japan, Tozawa was far from fit and it was clear that he knew what needed to be done.
Had Tozawa not gotten into the shape that he did, it’s safe to say that WWE wouldn’t have even considered him.
#3 The Big Show
The Big Show isn’t particularly active as a wrestler anymore but over the course of the past couple of years, as he began phasing out of full-time competition, he got motivated and happened to get into the best shape of his life.
Among all the physical transformations, his undoubtedly stands out as one to remember. His WWE run in 2017 saw him return in incredible shape, something fans had never seen from The Worlds Largest Athlete.
#2 The Rock
This is the only one that’s happened post-WWE career on the list. The Rock has always had one of the best looks in the business for his time and it’s one of the reasons that led to his major success.
Post-WWE however, as his Hollywood career took off, he’s gotten increasingly bulkier. You can see him every day on Instagram posting intense workout videos at the gym, working out at the most unreal times (such as 3 am, 4 am,etc.)
His success in Hollywood perhaps saw an increasing demand for him to get bulkier and that’s exactly what he did.
#1 Jinder Mahal
Jinder Mahal has undoubtedly had one of the best physical transformations in WWE history. When he returned in 2017, he got more motivated than ever and would get into the best shape of his career.
He moved to SmackDown Live in the superstar shake-up and that would end up becoming the best year of his career as he became WWE Champion just over a month later. He had an impressively long reign but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to get fitter by the day. The Maharaja remains hungry!
