The hairstyles of anime can range from completely normal to completely supernatural, sometimes in the same series. More often than not, anime characters have wild and complicated hairstyles that make some viewers wonder who animators kept it together; sometimes, characters’ hair even possesses supernatural powers. There are a plethora of dynamic anime hair designs that just don’t seem possible in the real world, so here are some characters with hairstyles that defy gravity.
7 Takuya Sekizan - All Out!
All Out! is a sports anime based on the manga by author Shiori Amase; the series follows a rag-tag high school rugby team on their journey to become world-class athletes. However, the world is vast, and the challenge is great, and the Kanagawa High School Rugby club has never had to fight so hard in their life.
The leader of the rugby team is Takuya Sekizan; over six feet tall and weighing two hundred pounds, Takuya is a beast on the rugby field. The iconic trait that defines Takuya is his strange hairstyle; his hair is crimson red with white curls that stand straight up in the series. These curls twitch and rotate when Takuya feels embarrassed or nervous on or off the field, which completely defies all logic.
6 Yasuhiro Hagakure - Danganronpa
Yasuhiro is a side character in the Danganronpa anime; the series follows an entire class of misfit freshmen high school students who are dragged into a dangerous game by the school’s principal to either kill or die.

Among the eccentric and bizarre students caught in the same trap, Yasuhiro fits right in with his strange character traits and extravagant hairstyle. Yasuhiro’s hair is stylized as dreadlocks that flow outward into a rounded, almost blossoming pattern. In the series, Grevil is a top-of-the-line investigator working for the local police and is highlighted for his eccentric nature and unorthodox techniques.
But more than that, Grevil’s most noticeable aspect is his twisting and turning hairstyle. Similar to a Unicorn’s horn, Grevil styles the front of his hair in a spike-shaped bang that protrudes upward, adding to his already abnormal height.
4 Annie -Pokemon Heroes: Latios and Latias
Pokemon is no stranger to incredible hairstyles; however, the watermelon-sized pigtails that Annie wears stand out amongst the others. Annie is an antagonist in the Pokemon Heroes Latios and Latias movie, the fifth in the series, where she serves as a member of Team Rocket.
Paired with her sister, Oakley, Annie is usually up to no good, causing chaos or attempting to steal powerful Pokemon to further Team Rocket’s success. Annie dawns a full head of blonde hair with spiraled pigtails larger than her head; these two weighted dumbbells don’t even slow her down, which looks impossible while she’s executing death-defying leaps in the film.
3 JP - Redline

2 Franky - One Piece
One Piece is a juggernaut in the anime industry and has reached over one thousand episodes in its twenty-five years in production. One of the most popular and most celebrated characters outside of the original roster is Franky; Franky is a man of many talents, but one of his most defining features has to be his hairstyle(s).
Since his debut, Franky has sported several high-functioning hairstyles that truly defy all logic and physics. At one point, Franky sported a simple buzz cut, but the next debuted a pair of pigtails shaped in the form of wings; in another instance, Franky dawned a whole cannon on his head, making him more than deserving to be on this list.
