Sadly, it appears that the common trend in Anime is to cast the nurse character in a supporting role, as none of these ladies hold onto the spotlight for very long. Regardless of their demoted status, all these medical attendants not only add a robust waifu factor with their presence but also have a significant impact on their relevant storylines overall.

7 Nasa Houston: Orbital Children

Viewers may first categorize Nasa Houston as a mere supporting character without much influence on the development of this short sci-fi series, however, there is often more to a person than meets the eye. As the resident nurse of the Anshin Space Station, Nasa is responsible for maintaining the health of Toya Sagami and Konoha Nanase, two ailing space-born children incapable of returning to Earth along with the rest of humanity.

As a medical professional, one would not predict that Nasa is the superstitious type, however, she proves to have an uncanny level of insight into the mysterious prophecy of Seven, even going so far as to quote straight from the poem’s passages. Ultimately, Nasa’s curiosity in seeing the prophecy’s progression is her demise in Orbital Children, as her true intentions eventually become apparent to the kids (who moments before trusted Nasa with their lives.)

6 Eliza Faust: Shaman King

Eliza is arguably the most iconic Anime ghost nurse of all time (so far), having spent most of her screen time as an apparition from the spirit realm in Shaman King. As a devoted wife and former nurse working for Johann Faust, Eliza was almost as distraught as her husband at the thought of being separated from him after death. When Faust found a Necromantic loophole, Eliza devoted her dying days to becoming a guardian spirit, wielding a scythe to slay any enemy who threatens her beloved.

As an oversoul, Eliza uses her bones as a vessel to reincarnate as a spirit warrior, which Faust carries with him at all times underneath his trenchcoat. By using his furiyoku, Faust can activate Eliza’s full strength, transforming her into a lethal, emotionless nurse warrior with appropriately adapted weaponry, known as Mephisto E.

5 Nori: Death Note

Noriko’s Anime debut is in episode 21 of Death Note titled “Performance,” where she essentially plays Misa Amane’s body double while she attempts to slip away from the spotlight to go out on an innocent date with Kyosuke Higuchi one evening. Although Nori may not have a major role in the overall narrative, she does add a significant stress factor to the show.

Following some ill-conceived series of events, Nori inadvertently alerts detective Kanzo Mogi of Misa’s deception (who has ulterior motives of her own), and he subsequently gets the Kira Task Force involved in an attempt to expose Kira’s true identity. Nori eventually fades into the background, however, she was the ideal catalyst for creating some stellar drama during her short appearance.

4 Sister Ivry: Edens Zero

Of all the ladies from the Shiki Granbell’s harem in Edens Zero, Sister Ivry has a substantial fan base, and is high-up on many viewers’ list of “best girl.” Sister Ivry forms the healing component of the Four Shining Stars’ dream team, however, she delivers her cures with less sunshine-and-daisies than one might anticipate, with her signature S & M flare.

The openly sadistic nurse has a habit of healing her enemies during combat, but not out of sympathy; she is more interested in self-satisfaction. Wanting to squeeze the most pain from her victims, Sister Ivry keeps them from the cusp of death to provide herself with more torturous moments. Don’t worry, she does (reluctantly) assist the Edens Zero Crew with medical issues, supplying a thick layer of sass along with her restorative treatments.

3 Aki Natsuki: Sword Art Online

Kirito undoubtedly has the utmost gratitude for Aki Natsuki, who helped him recover after the Sword Art Online incident (of Season 1) and became a crucial component of his safe reintegration into the online gaming world. Not only did nurse Natsuki watch over his physical body, but she help Kirito with his mental state as well, particularly when he is battling the demons of the past when he was forced to kill fellow players.

Nurse Natsuki may be a supporting character in Sword Art Online II, but her contribution is paramount to Kirito’s success as he attempts to save the world, yet again. Her sweet nature is in strong contrast to Kirito’s Gun Gale Online opponents, but don’t be fooled, as a former employee of theJapan Ground Self-Defense Force, she is likely less ignorant about combat strategies than first impressions imply.

2 Recovery Girl: My Hero Academia

One of the coolest, overpowered, ancient Anime characters to bless viewers’ screens is Youthful Heroine: Recovery Girl, whose name maybe should have been changed many moons ago! Not that it really matters, old age has never stopped Chiyo Shuzenji from getting the job done, as the official healer of U.A. High School in My Hero Academia.

Recovery Girl’s quirk does not heal the recipient directly as one might assume, as her power actually speeds up the person’s own, natural healing capabilities. A kiss from Recovery Girl may mend wounds, but, depending on the severity of the injury, it will wipe out their stamina in the process (and could even kill the unsuspecting victim.) Despite her awesome quirk, Recovery Girl is also a qualified doctor and surgeon, for those times her supernatural intervention may end up being a kiss of death.

1 Nurse Joy: Pokemon

Brock was not the only youngster to idolize Nurse Joy, who is likely the first nurse to leave a long-lasting impression on Anime fans (in the 90s at least!) Although most Nurse Joy’s that viewers meet along the way are actually new, individual characters (cousins with an uncanny resemblance), but generally speaking, most Nurse Joys are sweet, kind, and nurturing; the perfect requirements for a Pokemon healer!

These troop of ladies each run a different Pokemon Centre in every region and can be differentiated from one another by analyzing the symbol on her hat. Nurse Joy made her debut in the second ever episode of Pokemon in 1997, and since then, seven different voice actors have been responsible for bringing life to the beloved character.
