Money in the Bank will see both the men’s and women’s ladder matches as well as a number of Championship matches to make up the undercard.
This year, for the first time, the Superstars won’t be batling in the ring but instead inside WWE Headquarters as they battle each other to make it to the roof before looking to climb the ladder and retrieve the contract.
It will be a unique night of entertainment and the perfect form of escapism for every WWE fan at present. Ahead of the event, here are some of the boldest last-minute predictions.
#7. ‘The Bar’ reunites?
One of the latest matches to be added to this year’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view will see Cesaro take on Jeff Hardy on the kick-off show.
Recently, Hardy has had a few issues with Sheamus and sent him packing on Friday Night SmackDown upon The Charismatic Enigma’s return to the company. It’s unknown why Cesaro is Hardy’s opponent this weekend instead of the Irish star, but it’s thought that there is a reason why it’s taking place.
Cesaro and Sheamus were together as part of The Bar for a number of years and both have remained heel. As such, there could be an interesting union between the two men this weekend if Sheamus is able to help Cesaro to win.
Cesaro is currently part of a team with Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn. As Zayn is refusing to make his return to WWE TV, there could be space for Cesaro and Sheamus to work together for a short space of time.
#6. Sasha Banks helps Bayley to retain
While this isn’t that much of a bold prediction given the recent issues between Sasha Banks, Lacey Evans, Tamina, and Bayley, the way that it’s executed could be interesting. There has been talk of Sasha Banks turning on Bayley at some point and going on the challenge for the Women’s Championship, and the tease could begin tonight at Money in the Bank.
If The Boss interferes in the match to help her friend retain her Championship, the twist could be that Tamina actually wins but via Disqualification. This could then lead to a match between the two women once again at the next pay-per-view and would further tease the issues between Banks and Bayley.
Lacey Evans will be on-hand and could be this year’s Money in the Bank winner, which would allow her to get some revenge on the women who have made her life hell over the past few months. That being said, it could be that Evans appears to help Tamina anyway, given their recent union on SmackDown.
#5. Drew McIntyre retains the WWE Championship
Drew McIntyre was able to overcome the threat of Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania to become the WWE Champion, but it appears that his recent victory has put him right into the sight of Seth Rollins.
Rollins, of course, accomplished the same feat at last year’s WrestleMania but was able to take the Universal Championship away from The Beast. He since lost the title to ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt and stepped into a storyline of his own.
Rollins believes that he is more of a leader that McIntyre and that being champion is a burden for the Scottish star, which is why he needs to take the title away from him tonight.
McIntyre worked hard to be in the position that he currently holds in WWE, McIntyre was fired in 2014 and has climbed up through the ranks ever since. Rollins isn’t much of a challenge for the new Champion and with only Buddy Murphy in his corner, McIntyre should overcome the threat of The Monday Night Messiah quite easily.
#4. The Miz and John Morrison win back the Tag Team Championships
The New Day will be forced to defend their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The Lucha House Party, The Miz & John Morrison, and The Forgotten Sons at Money in the Bank.
Kofi Kingston and Big E will step into a fatal four-way match which could allow former Champions Miz and Morrison to pick up the win without even pinning the Champions.
The Forgotten Sons have made quite the impact on SmackDown since their debut following WrestleMania last month, but it feels a little too soon for the trio to pick up gold on the main roster. It’s also pretty obvious that The Lucha House Party are making up numbers here.
Miz and Morrison already have a storied feud with The New Day. They were the ones who defeated the stars a few months ago before Big E won the Championship back for his team on SmackDown a few weeks ago.
If The New Day don’t retain at Money in the Bank, then it would make sense for Miz and Morrison to be the ones who are able to walk out Champions.
#3. Bray Wyatt takes back the Universal Championship
It’s been a strange few months for ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt, who lost his Universal Championship in The Middle East to Goldberg. The story was then supposed to see Goldberg defeated by Roman Reigns at WrestleMania last month, but the COVID-19 forced Reigns to pull out of his WrestleMania match.
Braun Strowman then took Reigns place and was able to defeat Goldberg at WrestleMania to become Universal Champion. But let’s be honest, Wyatt should never have lost the Championship, to begin with so this could be WWE way of rewriting history.
The best option here is that Strowman could re-join with Wyatt and his current Firefly Fun House and then hand the Championship back over at the end of their match. After all, recent explanations behind Wyatt’s character suggest that Strowman wouldn’t be able to defeat him.
This won’t be a Firefly Fun House match but it could be one that Wyatt finds a way to insert mind games into and defeat his former ally.
#2. Asuka becomes Miss Money in the Bank 2020
The Empress of Tomorrow has become a popular woman in WWE over the past few months and has become someone that WWE can depend on throughout their time at the Performance Center.
This means that the Women’s Tag Team Champion will obviously be rewarded for her loyalty at some point. Rumors are doing the rounds that WWE could be set to push Asuka and this would be the perfect way to do it.
Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax could even each other out and then allow Asuka to sneak in and take the contract. The former Women’s Champion could be the first woman to win both the Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank if she’s able to sneak through and take the contract tonight.
Of course, there are a number of other women in the match, including Dana Brooke, Carmella, and Lacey Evans, who could take the contract, but Asuka is the most likely at this point.
#1. AJ Styles becomes Mr. Money in the Bank
Despite the longevity of AJ Styles’ career in the wrestling ring, Styles has never won the Money in the Bank contract. The former WWE Champion was recently “buried alive” by The Undertaker at WrestleMania and was then away from WWE for almost a month.
When Styles made his return, it was to a locker room without his OC teammates Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, who were released on April 15th. Styles needs a fresh start and a shot at the WWE Championship could be his way of moving forward.
Of all of the names in the contract ladder match, Styles seems to be the most obvious victor given that the field is made up of Aleister Black, Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio, King Corbin, and Otis.
Bryan and Corbin are former contract winners, while Mysterio doesn’t need the contract to gain a Championship match given his legendary status in WWE and it’s too soon for Otis. This means that Aleister Black is the only real challenge for AJ Styles in tonight’s contract match.
