This happens when something else - either death, grief, or other obstacles - drives them apart. As a result, there are plenty of memorable romances in various TV shows whose break-ups are devastating to watch.

7 Maseo Yamashiro And Tatsu Yamashiro

Even though Maseo and Tatsu are only supporting characters on Arrow, the breakage of their relationship is still painful and relatable. Their marriage filled with love falls apart when their only child, a young son Akio, tragically dies. Tatsu tries to be there for her husband but Maseo doesn’t handle it well and he leaves and joins the League of Assassins.

Even though Maseo still helps his old friend Oliver Queen, in the end, Tatsu is forced to kill her beloved husband in a combat. As a result, she loses not only her son but also the man she still loved despite everything that had happened between them.

6 The Tenth Doctor And Rose Tyler

Technically, this isn’t a traditional break-up since the Doctor and Rose didn’t acknowledge being a couple before. However, it’s still devastating to see them part ways in the second season’s finale since they love each other, as Rose herself confesses in their final conversation. That doesn’t change the fact that they’re in different universes which is something not even the Doctor can change.

Their last meeting is touching and has the power to make the audience cry just as Rose breaks down in tears when she realizes she will never see the Doctor again. So even though Rose later comes back, they never rekindle the type of intimacy and bond they once had. Instead, Rose gets her happy ending with the Tenth Doctor’s human clone.

5 Caitlin Snow And Ronnie Raymond

Another superhero-themed break-up that ends with death happens between Caitlin and her husband Ronnie. When Ronnie comes back after being presumed dead, Caitlin is overjoyed, and they get married. Unfortunately, their happiness doesn’t last long as Ronnie sacrifices his life to save everyone in a crisis.

Caitlin is then understandably devastated. Even though this couple never got as much attention as Barry and Iris, they were sweet together and Caitlin never again had such a genuine romance with anybody on the show.

4 Philip J. Fry And Turanga Leela

There are many ways a relationship can break, some of them truly unusual. Fry and Leela got together multiple times and broke up multiple times, but by far their most devastating separation was the one they weren’t responsible for. When Fry, Bender, and Professor Farnsworth tested the professor’s time machine, they accidentally got sent to a distant future and couldn’t come back.

Fry then discovered a sad message from Leela that said that their short time together was the best in her life. Luckily, they got another chance at happiness when they came up with a way to fix things and return to their own time, more or less (even if it meant they had to kill their alternate selves).

3 Brienne Of Tarth And Jaime Lannister

Game of Thrones had many unforgettable couples over the course of its eight seasons. One of the most memorable ones that took a long time to get together despite the clear affection and bond between them was Brienne and Jaime. Initially enemies, they became friends, Brienne fell for Jaime, and he finally acknowledged his feelings for her in the last season.

Unfortunately, Jaime made the poor decision to leave Brienne behind and try and save his sister Cersei. He left despite the fact that Brienne begged him not to and lost his life as a result, so the couple didn’t get the happy ending many fans wished for them.

2 Barney Stinson And Robin Scherbatsky

The fact that Barney and Robin got divorced is still a sore spot for many fans of How I Met Your Mother. It’s true that if their divorce didn’t happen, Barney never would have had a child, something he didn’t even know he wanted before his daughter was born.

But they could have always gotten back together later on instead of Robin and Ted who weren’t nearly as matched as Robin and Barney. They had much more in common, the way they approached life, and they shared many hobbies. And after building up their relationship for so long, their break-up didn’t get as much space as it would have deserved.

1 Lucifer And Chloe Decker

The romance between Lucifer and Chloe brought a lot of frustration to the fans of the show since they waited long for them to get together. And when they finally found their way to each other, and it looked like everything would be alright, Lucifer had to go back to Hell in the fourth season’s finale, and it looked like he wouldn’t be coming back.

Even Chloe’s tears and her confession of love didn’t sway him even though they shared a kiss. Their break-up was one of the most touching scenes of the show, and even though Lucifer later came back, only more trouble was ahead for this romance.
