If nothing else, it will be very interesting to watch the next couple episodes of Raw to see if this rumor is true or not and what happens next as a result. Here are seven people that will be negatively affected if Rey Mysterio actually ends up leaving WWE.
As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to tell us if you think Mysterio will actually leave or not.
#7 Rey Mysterio
If the rumors that Rey Mysterio’s contract has actually expired are true, few people will suffer more than Mysterio himself. Not only is that evident by this being one of the best and most personal storylines of his career, but also by what it could mean for his son, Dominick.
WWE has managed to captivate the WWE Universe with this storyline and it all stems from how the Mysterio family has been brought into it. In fact, watching Dominick fight for the honor of his father and his family almost brings a tear to your eyes.
With this probably being the best feud on Monday Night Raw right now, Rey Mysterio would no doubt suffer if he doesn’t see this storyline through. His departure would also most likely affect Dominick’s future with the company as well, which is something Rey Mysterio wouldn’t want to do.
#6 & #5 Buddy Murphy and Austin Theory
Buddy Murphy and Austin Theory joined up with Seth Rollins in hopes of reviving their careers, and battling Rey Mysterio has definitely helped achieve that goal. Not only is that evident by Mysterio’s veteran status in the company, but also by how personal the whole feud is at this point in time.
In the current storyline between Rollins’s cult and Mysterio’s family, it’s pretty obvious that a premature conclusion would be less than appealing. Of course WWE could just find a way to write Mysterio off television and turn attention to Aleister Black and Humberto Carrillo, but it wouldn’t have the same effect.
In the end, the name of the game is momentum and for Murphy and Theory to keep that, they are going to need Rey Mysterio to stay around. Either that, or be forced to target someone else and find a way to make the fans care about that instead of the original storyline.
#4 & #3 Aleister Black and Humberto Carrillo
WWE has this reoccurring trope of Superstars coming to the rescue of Rey Mysterio and right now those two people are Aleister Black and Humberto Carrillo. While the storyline is a step up for Carrillo, and a way for Black to stay relevant, it could all be short-lived if Mysterio calls it quits.
In all honesty, the two Superstars are in a very important position right now and they need a satisfying conclusion in order to move forward. In fact, if Mysterio were to never compete again and the storyline between the two sides was to be dropped, it is obvious that Black and Carrillo would be among the worst off.
WWE is a game of momentum and staying relevant with the crowd. Unfortunately for Black and Carrillo, they have been spinning their wheels ever since Money in the Bank and losing this storyline would basically be the equivalent of starting over yet again.
#2 Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio have been battling it out for weeks now and the result is some of Rollins’s best heel work! Of course there probably never should have been any doubt about his ability to play a heel, especially after joining The Authority, but this storyline with Rey Mysterio is at a different level.
Between working perfectly off of the wholesomeness of Rey Mysterio and Rollins’s cult leader type promos, this is one of the top storylines on Raw right now. . Unfortunately for the Monday Night Messiah, a premature conclusion to this storyline could stilt the character and force the company to find a new direction for it to go in.
The continued success of this mega push that Rollins is on will be somewhat dependent on what happens with Mysterio. Now, that doesn’t mean the company can’t eventually find another opponent for Rollins to have it out with, but it likely wont have the personal touch that this one has.
#1 Dominick
It’s no secret that Dominick Mysterio is being primed for a future in the WWE and while that career path seems like a done deal, Rey Mysterio exiting the company could stall it. It could result in Dominick being directionless and not give the WWE Universe a satisfying ending to an amazing storyline
WWE could just redirect focus to Dominick, Aleister Black and Austin Theory versus Rollins’s cult, but it wouldn’t have the same meaning to it without Rey Mysterio. Furthermore, it wouldn’t showcase the struggle that the Mysterio family is facing right now between staying safe and defending the family’s honor.
In all honesty, this storyline is white hot right now and is about as personal as something can get in today’s WWE. It is also the ultimate showcase of what Dominick can do in the future, which is why it would be be a huge blow to the young man’s future in WWE if his father were to suddenly vanish from television.
