Here are seven features you need to enable on your PlayStation 5.
1. Enable Remote Play
As long as you have a smartphone, tablet, or computer that supports the PlayStation Remote Play app, you can access your PS5 over the internet anywhere. Once you’ve connected to your console remotely, you can play games or even start or resume downloads.
However, before you can use the Remote Play feature on your console, you’ll need to enable it. To do that, please check out our guide on setting up and using Remote Play on PlayStation 5.
2. Enable Automatic Login
Are you tired of having to select your profile every time you turn on your PlayStation 5? If so, you can make it so that your profile is automatically selected every time you turn on the console. All you have to do is enable automatic login.
Here’s how to do that:
Go to Settings and then select Users and Accounts. On the left side menu, select Login Settings. On the right side, turn on the toggle for Log in to PS5 Automatically.
This is a great option to enable if you’re the only one who uses the PS5 or uses it the most. Keep in mind, however, that if you share the console and someone enables automatic login on their profile, it will disable it on yours and pick theirs as the default sign-in option.
3. Set Your Game Presets
Before you start playing a game, there are probably a few things you like to set to tailor your experience, including difficulty, graphics mode (performance or resolution), or subtitles. Rather than manually changing these settings for every game, your PS5 allows you to set some of them once through Game Presets. Then, the console applies them to all your games.
To set Game Presets on your PS5, please read our guide on choosing default game settings across all PS5 games.
4. Add More Controls to the Control Center
You can easily bring up the Control Center on your PS5, whether you’re playing a game or on the dashboard, to access several features quickly. If the controls on the Control Center aren’t what you need, you can add more.
Here’s how to do that:
Press the PS button on your DualSense controller. Press the Down button to select the Control Center, and then press Options to access the customization screen. In the Control Center’s customization screen, the icons above the line are the active controls. The ones below are the hidden ones that you’re yet to add. To add a control, press the Down button to access the hidden controls, highlight the one you want, and then press the X button to select it. Press the Up button to move it up to the active controls. You can also press the directional buttons to choose a different position for it. Press the X button to set its position in the Control Center.
To remove a control, do the opposite of steps four and five – move the control from the active list on top to the hidden one below.
5. Enable 3D Audio for Your TV’s Speakers
You don’t need a pair of fancy headsets to enjoy the PlayStation 5’s 3D audio feature. 3D audio allows you to tell which direction sounds are coming from, which can, for example, help you know where the danger is coming from in games that implement it. Thankfully, you can enable 3D audio to come out of your TV’s speakers as well.
Here’s how to do that:
Go to Settings and then select Sound. On the left side menu, select 3D Audio for TV Speakers. On the right side, turn on the toggle for Enable 3D Audio for TV Speakers. You’ll see a pop-up saying the console wants to measure the acoustics of your room using the TV’s speakers and the DualSense’s microphone. Select Start Measurement and then follow the instruction to perform the test.
Once the measurement is complete, you’ll now get 3D audio coming out of your TV’s speakers.
6. Enable Voice Commands
If you’ve set the region of your PSN account to the US or UK, you can enable Voice Commands. This will allow you to use your voice to access some of the PS5’s features by speaking into the built-in microphone in the DualSense controller or a headset.
While you can’t do everything through Voice Commands, you can do simple things like launching games and apps, accessing your settings, and playing media. Please read our guide on enabling Voice Commands on PS5 to turn it on.
7. Enable Easy Screenshots or Easy Video Clips
If you want to change the behavior of the Create button to simplify taking screenshots or video clips, you can enable Easy Screenshots or Easy Video Clips.
Here’s how to do that:
Go to Settings and then select Captures and Broadcasts. Select Captures on the left side menu, and then select Shortcuts for Create Button on the right. Select the Button mapping option to bring up a menu. In the menu, select either Easy Screenshots or Easy Video Clips.
Now the actions of the Create button will change. For example, if you selected Easy Screenshots, pressing the Create button will instantly take a screenshot instead of bringing up the Create Controls. You’ll then have to press and hold the Create button to bring out those controls.
