Last year, around this time, Jinder Mahal was the WWE Champion on SmackDown Live, while now he, along with Alicia Fox, are involved in a feud with Finn Balor and Bayley.
Irrespective of how the Indian superstars perform, the WWE Universe of India has always been loyal to the company. Currently, there are seven Indian origin superstars active on the promotion’s roster.
Here’s a brief introduction of all the seven superstars.
#1 Jinder Mahal
The most popular name on this list, the former WWE Champion and United States Champion, Jinder Mahal had a memorable stint as the blue brand’s top heel last year.
Mahal returned to WWE with an improved physique and better wrestling abilities. His WWE Championship victory was one of the most shocking moments in the history of WWE.
The Modern Day Maharaja defeated the likes of Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, Tye Dillinger and other top Superstars on the SmackDown Live roster during his reign as the world champion.
He lost the title to AJ Styles at a UK Special episode after holding it for nearly six months. He was even successful in capturing the United States Championship at WrestleMania 34 after pinning Rusev in a fatal four-way match also involving Randy Orton and Bobby Roode.
However, Mahal has been not been in the main event scene ever since the WWE Creative sent him back to RAW as a part of the Superstar Shake-up.
Currently, the Modern Day Maharaja is involved in a feud with team “B & B” in a story-line related to the Mixed Match Challenge.
#2 Kavita Devi
Kavita Devi became India’s first female WWE Superstar when she took part in the Mae Young Classic in 2017.
Kavita was also the part of the first ever Women’s Battle Royale at WrestleMania 34. With WWE announcing an all women’s pay-per-view, WWE Evolution, which promises to feature over 50 superstars, it is possible that Devi might be competing at the event.
She could also be one of the potential entrants for the Women’s Royal Rumble match in 2019.
#3 Akam
One-half of Drake Maverick’s Authors of Pain, Akam’s original name is Sunny Dhinsa. Akam along with Rezar was a part of NXT and Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic before jumping to the Monday Night RAW roster.
WWE Creative seems to be very high on the Authors of Pain given the way it has booked them on the main roster so far. With the S.H.I.E.L.D possibly splitting up, AOP may soon be involved in the RAW tag team championship picture.
#4 Jeet Rama
Satender Dagar popularly known as Jeet Rama by the WWE Universe is the part of NXT roster and also performed at the WWE Live Event in Delhi.
Jeet is a hard worker and seems to be up on his way to the main roster. The creative team could draft him to the RAW roster where he along with Jinder Mahal and the Singh Brothers can form their own Indian faction.
Before signing with WWE, Jeet Rama was a pahelwan(wrestler in Hindi) and used to wrestle in his village.
#5 Kishan Raftar
Lovepreet Sangha aka Kishan Raftar is also a part of the developmental territory NXT and was also a part of the roster that performed at WWE Live Event in New Delhi.
Another talented wrestler from northern India, Kishan has improved leaps and bounds ever since joining with the company.
Kishan Raftar is destined to be one of the greatest Indian WWE Superstars of all time. WWE had also uploaded the routine of Raftar on their official YouTube channel.
#6 Sunil Singh
One-half of the Singh brothers, Sunil Singh debuted on NXT along with his brother Samir as a tag team called the Bollywood Boyz.
There were then drafted to 205 Live after the re-introduction of the Cruiser-weight division after the brand split.
However, Sunil Singh grabbed the attention of the WWE Universe only after he aligned himself with the Modern Day Maharaja, Jinder Mahal.
Sunil has also competed against the current world champions AJ Styles and Roman Reigns in singles competition. He was instrumental in helping Mahal keep hold over the world title. Sunil is a now a part of Monday Night RAW roster playing the role of The Modern Day Maharaja’s sidekick.
#7 Samir Singh
Samir Singh also debuted on the blue brand amidst the six-pack challenge match to determine the No.1 contender for the WWE Championship helping Jinder Mahal.
The Singh Brothers’ way of introducing the Modern Day Maharaja has been one of the best introductions in the history of WWE.
Samir has been off TV since January 2018 due to a torn ACL. He seems to have recovered from his injury and can walk as seen in a video shared by him on social media. Samir’s return to RAW is one of the most awaited ones as Jinder Mahal has been irrelevant ever since Samir is sidelined.
