As Super Show-Down is targeted to continue the same storylines, it will not be surprising if a title change happens in Australia. With the amount of promotion that Super Show-Down Australia is garnering, it is looking no less than a Pay-Per-View, while it’s a Live Event on papers.
There were a lot of great moments. The Shield did not get all the gold as one would have predicted considering how they are being pushed in RAW. Becky Lynch became the Women’s Champion and hence giving fans a hope that Charlotte Flair might not be the women equivalent of Roman Reigns. Hell in a Cell was a huge success and the quality of fights was amazing, but a couple of things did go wrong. So let’s go through what I felt went wrong at Hell in a Cell 2018.
#7. The Red Cage
Possibly, I would have opted this cage for a match between The Big Red Machine Kane and some other WWE superstar. Except that, I did not think there was any need to change the color of the steel cage. Not just that, ever since 2009, when the PPV Hell in a Cell happened for the first time, and way back in 1997 when the cages were introduced, The Metallic Cell has been the trademark of the event.
Not just the fact that the red cell looked a lot more eye-catching and everything, it looked really feeble against the metallic cage. The steel cage of earlier Pay-Per-Views looked more painful and gruesome, which is what Hell in a Cell is all about.
#6. The absence of other talented Superstars
WWE left out a great deal of talent without a storyline to be included in the Hell in a Cell. Bobby Lashley, Finn Balor, Bobby Roode, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens - nobody could make an appearance at the Pay-Per-View.
While some might argue the quality over quantity debate, but we have seen with SummerSlam that even a lengthy show can come up with great content.
#5. Brie Bella vs Maryse
It actually looked Brie Bella vs Maryse more than Mixed Tag-Team in action. A botched finish, botched Yes Kicks and a very poor sequence of events led to this dull affair called the “Years in Making Feud.” It wasn’t anything exciting, The Miz will never gets a clean victory, and Daniel Bryan will move to higher things after defeating The Miz at Super Show-Down Australia, leaving The Miz where he has always been.
#4. Mick Foley looked needless
Keeping aside the fact that Mick Foley made a blunder when he counted to three, Mick Foley’s presence in the match looked really unessential. Paul Heyman using a spray to topple the legend down, and Foley’s non-involvement in any major segment appeared as if he was any other referee making the match. Instead, the kind of brutality that happened in Randy Orton vs Jeff Hardy Hell in a Cell made for Mick Foley’s involvement.
#3. Burying the SmackDown Live
It has long been argued that WWE Universe decided that RAW was the flagship show of WWE. But WWE itself seems to be hell-bent on proving that RAW is the main show which main-events every Pay-Per-View. And you can’t blame just Roman Reigns for this.
It was quite clear that SmackDown Live had more interesting and intriguing storylines heading into Hell in a Cell. But it was quite evident from the match card that, a re-match was given more prominence than Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair’s much-anticipated match. The SmackDown Tag-Team made for a kick-off show and the last three matches of the Pay-Per-View only featured RAW Superstars.
#2. Brock Lesner’s return
A lot was at stake and there were many predictions as to what might be the result of Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman. It was quite evident that Roman Reigns was not going to lose the belt that easy, so either a clean victory or a no contest was at cards. Nobody saw it coming in this way. RAW has built on a storyline where the entire RAW roster was against The Shield. Dolph Ziggler had finally found the perfect footing in WWE. Braun Strowman’s new alliance was doing great and all of a sudden you have The Beast challenging the Universal Title.
Possibly for one last match, or a triple threat match or something more than 500 odd days. It doesn’t look promising at all and the WWE Universe will get tired and only boo the beast’s return. And this does not mean any way that Roman Reigns will be cheered. Back to business.
#1. WWE Championship
WWE seems to have substantially decreased the value, authenticity, and prestige of holding SmackDown Live’s Title Belt also called the WWE Championship belt. The match happened before RAW Women’s Title. Y
es, it’s understandable that two title matches happening consecutively does not make a good show but the very idea that from as long as Universal Championship has existed, WWE Championship seems to have lost all its prominence in the match cards cause for a concern.
