Seven Tips to Resolve Instagram Music Not Working
- Check whether or not the music sticker is available– To add music to any post, you need to have the option available for you. To check the availability of the music sticker with your profile, click on the plus sign at the top of the screen and then tap the dropdown menu to select the Story option. Pick a video or photo to add to your story.
You need to select the Music icon or click on the sticker icon and choose the music sticker. You should be able to see a wide range of music options in the music library. However, if you do not see the music icon then follow the tips given below until the issue is resolved.

- Ensure that the app is updated– If you are using an old version of the app, it is possible that music is not supported, or maybe a bug is hindering Instagram Music from working.
It is advisable to keep the automatic updates turned on for Instagram or any other apps so that they get updated when a new version is available. If you have not done it already, you can update manually as well. Do the following to update the app:
Go to Google Play Store for Android or Apple App Store for iPhoneSearch for InstagramClick on Update if you see the option
However, if you see only the Open option, it means the app is updated and no new update is available.
- Log out of Instagram– This tip may sound easy and too simple to be true, which it is but in many cases doing this resolved the issue at hand. You just need to log out and sign back in again to get your music feature restored.
To do this:
Open Instagram and go to your profile pageClick on the ellipsis menu and choose Settings from the pop-up menuScroll to the bottom and hit Log Out
Log back in using your credentials
- Switch to a personal account– Many Instagrammers have reported having lost access to music upon upgrading to the Business account. Switch to your personal account from your professional account to check whether or not the issue gets resolved. You do not need to panic about losing your professional account. You can switch back to it from your account and vice versa easily and as often as you like.
Here is how it is done:
Open Instagram and go to the profile pageClick the ellipsis icon and then click on Settings from the pop-up menuChoose AccountScroll to the bottom and select Switch to Personal AccountDo the same to switch back to your business account
You may need to give some time before the music feature starts working again on the personal account.

- Uninstall and reinstall the app– Sometimes installation of the app could be a problem or the data cache may be corrupted preventing the app from functioning properly.
Just uninstall and reinstall the app from the Play Store or App Store. Login to your account again. Do not worry, the data would still be there and the issue should be resolved hopefully.
- Check if Instagram is facing service outages– It is a possibility that some of the Instagram services are offline which is affecting your account to use parts of the app, the music library in your instance. To check whether or not everything is fine, visit the DownDetector website to check the status page of Instagram.
